Bon Chien intentionally keeps every walk to a strict maximum of three dogs for safety, individual attention, and a calmer crew. This is below the City of Toronto’s four-to-six-dog threshold for a Commercial Dog Walker Permit, which Bon Chien does not currently hold.
This dog-walking service is currently uninsured. The owner is responsible for maintaining any pet, personal-liability, or other insurance they consider appropriate, and for all veterinary, medical, property, or related expenses involving their dog, except to the extent responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.
The assigned Bon Chien walker is responsible for picking up the dog from the agreed location, returning the dog there, and using reasonable care and best efforts to keep the dog safe, secure, and properly supervised during the agreed service period. Dogs remain leashed except in a designated off-leash area and only with the owner’s prior permission, subject to posted rules and the walker’s judgment of safe conditions. Wet dogs will be towel-dried before return, and all dog feces produced during the walk will be collected and properly disposed of.
The owner must disclose any history of aggression, biting, escape behaviour, poor recall, illness, injury, or other relevant concern; provide secure and suitable walking equipment; ensure required licences and vaccinations are current; and provide accurate emergency and veterinary contact information. Off-leash permission may be declined or withdrawn by either the owner or the assigned walker.
Each booked walk includes 60 full minutes of walking or supervised off-leash activity. When a Bon Chien walker transports a dog to High Park or another suitable designated off-leash area, pickup, driving, loading, and return travel are additional to those 60 minutes and are not charged to the owner.
Payment may be made by cash or e-transfer and is normally due immediately after each walk or at the end of the service week. A different flexible payment schedule may be arranged in advance by mutual agreement for ease and convenience.
Bon Chien will use reasonable care to protect keys, access instructions, alarm information, privacy, belongings, and household information. All Bon Chien walkers must be able to provide confirmation of a current, clear Criminal Record Check (Level 1) upon reasonable request, subject to consent and applicable privacy law.
If the assigned walker reasonably believes urgent care is needed and cannot promptly reach the owner, the owner authorizes Bon Chien and the walker to seek veterinary or emergency assistance. The owner remains responsible for the resulting costs.
Dog walking, vehicle transport, and off-leash activity include risks that cannot be completely eliminated, including illness, injury, escape, encounters with people or animals, weather, traffic, and acts of third parties. To the fullest extent permitted by Ontario law, the owner accepts these ordinary and unforeseen risks and releases Bon Chien and the assigned walker from claims, losses, costs, or liability arising despite reasonable care and attention.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including liability arising from gross negligence or wilful misconduct, and nothing overrides rights or responsibilities imposed by applicable law. The owner remains responsible for their dog to the extent provided by law.
Bon Chien hopes every dog becomes a happy, long-term member of the walking crew. As a last resort, and only after due care and consideration, Bon Chien may end services at its discretion if a dog’s behaviour presents a concern or if the service is not a suitable fit for the client’s expectations. Bon Chien is not required to provide detailed reasons. The client will receive a polite notice by text or email, and service will end on the date that notice is sent unless a later date is stated. This decision is never made lightly, but the safety, comfort, and fit of every adventure must come first.
